Terms of Service
The short version: Meant is a place to send and receive one anonymous voice message at a time. Be human. Don't harm anyone. Don't spam. We may remove content that breaks our rules. You can stop using Meant at any time and request your data deleted.
01.Welcome
These Terms govern your use of Meant — the website at meantfor.you, the Meant mobile app (when launched), and any related services (collectively, "the Service").
The Service is operated by Meant Ltd, a private limited company registered in the United Kingdom. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
02.Eligibility
To use Meant, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
- Not be barred from the Service under any applicable law.
- Not be located in a sanctioned jurisdiction.
If you are using the Service on behalf of someone else, you represent that you have authority to bind that person to these Terms.
03.What Meant is
Meant is an anonymous voice message exchange. The basic mechanic:
- You record a voicemail (a Whisper, Letter, or Confession).
- We match it with a listener who speaks your language.
- The listener records a reply within 72 hours.
- You receive the reply.
- The exchange closes. There is no thread, no further reply, no second meeting.
04.What Meant is not
Meant is not:
- A mental health crisis service. If you are in crisis, please contact qualified professional support (we list resources in the app).
- A medical, legal, financial, or therapeutic service. Listeners are anonymous strangers, not professionals.
- A dating, networking, or social media platform.
- A public broadcasting platform. All exchanges are private.
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, contact local emergency services or crisis hotlines. The Service is not a substitute for professional care.
05.Your account
To use the Service, you create an account using only an email address (no password — sign-in is via magic link).
- You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure.
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access at voice@meantfor.you.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
06.What you may not send
The following content is prohibited in voicemails or replies:
- Illegal content. Anything that violates applicable law.
- Harm to minors. Any sexualized content involving minors, grooming behavior, or attempts to identify a minor.
- Threats and harassment. Threats of violence, stalking, doxing, or harassment of any individual.
- Hate speech. Content targeting people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Promotion of self-harm. Content encouraging or instructing self-harm or suicide. (Talking about your struggles is welcome — promotion is not.)
- Sexual content involving non-consenting parties. Including non-consensual sharing of intimate content.
- Commercial solicitation. Sales pitches, marketing, recruitment, fundraising.
- Identifying information. Don't share your real name, phone number, address, or others' personal details. Anonymity is the contract.
- Spam. Unsolicited bulk messages, repeated identical content.
- Malicious content. Audio designed to damage devices, exploit vulnerabilities, or contain malware.
07.Listener responsibilities
If you choose to be a listener, you take on these specific commitments:
- Listen with attention. Take a moment before replying.
- Reply within 72 hours, or release the voicemail back to the queue.
- Do not give medical, legal, financial, or psychiatric advice.
- Do not attempt to identify, locate, or contact the sender outside the Service.
- Do not record, share, transcribe, or republish a voicemail you have received. Voicemails are confidential to the exchange.
- Report content that violates these Terms via the in-app report function.
08.Pricing and payments
The Service uses a credit system:
- Whisper: shortest format, lowest credit cost.
- Letter: medium format.
- Confession: longest format, higher credit cost.
Credits are sold via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. All purchases are subject to those platforms' terms.
Listeners can earn credits by completing replies. Earned credits cannot be exchanged for cash but can be used within the Service.
Refunds
If your voicemail does not receive a reply within 72 hours, the credit is automatically returned to your account. For other refund requests, the App Store / Play Store refund policies apply.
09.Content ownership
You retain ownership of the voicemails you record. By using the Service, you grant Meant a limited, non-exclusive license to:
- Store your voicemail temporarily for delivery.
- Transmit it to the assigned listener.
- Process it for safety review where required.
This license ends when your voicemail is deleted (according to our retention schedule or upon your deletion request).
We do not use your voicemails for training AI, advertising, marketing, public broadcast, or any purpose beyond delivering the Service.
10.Reporting and removal
If you receive a voicemail that violates these Terms, report it via the in-app report button. We review reports within 48 hours.
If we find a violation, we may:
- Remove the voicemail.
- Refund the affected user.
- Warn or suspend the offending account.
- Permanently terminate the offending account.
- Report to authorities if required by law.
If you believe your content was removed in error, contact voice@meantfor.you.
11.Termination
You may terminate your account at any time by contacting voice@meantfor.you or via in-app settings (when available).
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms.
- Engage in fraud or abuse.
- Pose a risk to other users or the Service.
Termination does not affect rights or obligations that arose before termination.
12.Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that:
- Voicemails will always be matched promptly.
- Replies will be helpful, accurate, or kind. (Listeners are anonymous strangers; their replies reflect their own perspective only.)
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
13.Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Meant Ltd's total liability to you arising from or related to the Service is limited to the greater of:
- £100, or
- The amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including emotional distress arising from a reply you received, even if such damages were foreseeable.
This limitation does not apply to:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
- Any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
14.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Meant Ltd, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your violation of these Terms.
- Your violation of any third party's rights.
- Content you submit to the Service.
15.Changes to these Terms
If we make material changes, we will notify users by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
The current version is always available at meantfor.you/terms.html.
16.Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer in your country of residence, where applicable.
